FAQ
Below you will find some of our most frequently asked questions and answers
How long will my move take?
Each move is different and varies in length. When we give you a quote we will provide an estimated time length.
What can I do to make the move smooth?
A few things:
- Make sure to box up EVERYTHING prior to moving day. When there are a lot of loose or small items that could have been boxed up not in boxes it can take extra time. Also, the more prepared you are, the quicker the move will go.
- Stay close by to help the movers know where items are going.
How should I pay for the move?
We accept cash, check, or credit/debit card at the end of the move.
Are you insured?
Goal Line Moving is licensed and insured. We meet all MNDOT requirements for moving companies in Minnesota.
When is payment due?
Payment is due at the completion of your move. We accept credit card, check, or cash. For larger or long-distance moves, deposits or milestone payments may apply.
How much does a local move cost?
Every move is different. The size of the home, amount of furniture, packing status, stairs, long walks, specialty items, and travel distance all affect the final cost. We provide customized estimates after learning more about your move.
Why can't you give me a price over the phone?
We can sometimes provide a very rough ballpark, but we prefer a virtual or onsite walkthrough because every move is unique. A walkthrough helps us provide a more accurate estimate and identify any special considerations before moving day.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We provide free estimates for local and long-distance moves.
Why do you recommend a virtual walkthrough?
Our LiveSwitch virtual walkthrough lets you show us exactly what is being moved whenever it’s convenient for you. It helps us provide a more accurate estimate without scheduling an in-home appointment.
What information do you need for an estimate?
We typically need the move date, loading and unloading addresses, any closing information, and a visual of the items being moved.
How accurate are your estimates?
Our estimates are based on the information provided before move day. We work hard to make them realistic, but additional items, preparation changes, or access issues can affect the final time.
Why are your estimates sometimes higher than other companies?
We focus on realistic planning rather than simply winning the job with the lowest estimate. We’d rather prepare properly than surprise customers on moving day.
How can I save money on my move?
Being fully packed and ready before the movers arrive is the biggest way to reduce moving time. Consolidating boxes near the garage or entry door can also help speed up loading.
What does "packed and ready" mean?
Packed means everything that can reasonably be boxed is boxed, sealed, and ready to move. Loose miscellaneous items often slow the move considerably.
Should I empty dresser drawers?
We generally recommend yes. Lightweight clothing may remain in some cases, but empty drawers reduce weight and help protect the furniture during transport.
Can clothes stay on hangers?
Yes. Clothing on hangers can often be moved using wardrobe boxes or carefully transported depending on the situation.
Should I label my boxes?
Absolutely. Clearly labeling boxes helps movers place them in the correct rooms and makes unpacking much easier.
Should I move boxes into the garage?
If practical, yes. Having packed boxes in one central loading area often reduces loading time and may lower the overall labor cost.
Do TVs need to be removed from the wall?
Yes. TVs should already be removed from wall mounts before the movers arrive.
Do TVs need to be boxed?
Yes. We recommend all TVs be properly boxed. Rental TV boxes are available upon request.
Do mirrors and artwork need to be boxed?
Yes. Large mirrors and artwork should be protected with appropriate boxes before being moved. Rental boxes are available.
Do movers disassemble beds?
Yes, if arranged ahead of time. We like to know before move day which beds require disassembly and reassembly.
Do you move treadmills?
Yes, most treadmills. They should be disassembled into the base and upright section before move day. We do not disassemble fitness equipment.
Do you move Peloton treadmills?
No. We do not move Peloton treadmills or slat-belt treadmills.
Do you move safes?
Yes, within our weight and access guidelines. We’ll ask additional questions to ensure the move can be completed safely.
Do you move pianos?
We move upright and spinet pianos in appropriate situations. We’ll review the access and setup before confirming.
Do you disconnect appliances?
No. Washers, dryers, refrigerators, and other appliances should be disconnected before the movers arrive.
Does my refrigerator need to be emptied?
Yes. Refrigerators and freezers should be emptied and completely thawed before moving.
How does hourly billing work?
Local moves are billed based on the actual time worked in 15-minute increments.
What is the travel charge?
The travel charge covers travel to your first location and back from the final location. It varies depending on where your move begins and ends.
What if my closing is delayed?
Closing delays happen. Let us know as soon as possible so we can discuss scheduling options and adjust the moving plan if needed.
Can you make multiple stops?
Yes. We can often accommodate multiple stops as part of your move when planned in advance.
Can you load my rental truck or POD?
Yes. We provide loading-only and unloading-only services for rental trucks, trailers, PODS, U-Pack containers, and similar services.
Who is responsible after my rental truck leaves?
When we perform a loading-only service, our responsibility ends once loading is complete because we are not transporting the shipment.
Do you offer packing services?
Yes. We offer both full and partial packing services. Most customers pack themselves, but we’re happy to help when needed.
What happens if something gets damaged?
We take extensive precautions to prevent damage. If something does occur, we’ll work with you through our claims process and applicable valuation coverage.
How do you protect furniture?
We use furniture pads, stretch wrap when appropriate, floor protection, and careful loading techniques to help protect your belongings.
What makes Goal Line Moving different?
We believe communication is the foundation of a successful move. We ask detailed questions, provide realistic estimates, and focus on preparation so there are fewer surprises on moving day.
Should I tip the movers?
Tipping is never required but is always appreciated if you feel the crew provided exceptional service.
Can you move from a storage unit?
Yes. We frequently move customers into and out of storage units.
Do you move offices and businesses?
Yes. We provide commercial moving services ranging from small office moves to larger commercial relocations.
